ශ්‍රී ලංකා නිදහස් පක්ෂයේ මෛත්‍රීපාල සිරිසේන පාර්ශවය සහ මහින්ද රාජපක්‍ෂ පාර්ශවය ඉදිරි පළාත් පාලන මැතිවරණයේදී එක්ව තරඟ කිරීමට සිදුකළ සාකච්ඡා අසාර්ථක වීම හේතුවෙන් මහින්ද රාජපක්‍ෂ පාර්ශවය ශ්‍රී ලංකා පොදුජන පෙරමුණේ නෙළුම් පොහොට්ටුව ලකුණෙන් හා මෛත්‍රී පාර්ශවය ශ්‍රීලනිපය අත ලකුණෙන් තරඟ කිරීමට තීරණය කර ඇති බව වාර්ථා වේ.
මේ සම්බන්ධයෙන් පසුගිය දිනවල ශ්‍රීලනිපය හා ඒකාබද්ධ විපක්‍ෂය වෙනුවෙන් නම් කළ නියෝජිතයින් අතර පැවති සාකච්ඡා අසාර්ථක වී ඇත. ඒකාබද්ධ විපක්‍ෂය වෙනුවෙන් සාකච්ඡාවලට සහභාගී වූ නියෝජිතයෙකු පවසා ඇත්තේ, එක්ව තරඟ කිරීමට නම් ශ්‍රීලනිපය ආණ්ඩුවෙන් ඉවත් වියයුතු බව සහ තරඟ කරන පක්ෂයේ නායකත්වය සහ ලේකම් ධූරය මහින්ද රාජපක්‍ෂ පිළට තිබිය යුතු බව ඒකාබද්ධ විපක්‍ෂයෙන් කොන්දේසි ලෙස ඉදිරිපත් කළ නමුත් ශ්‍රීලනිප පාර්ශවය ආණ්ඩුවෙන් ඉවත්වීම ප්‍රතික්ෂේප කළ නිසා සාකච්ඡා අසාර්ථක වූ බවයි.
